Statement of Faith — Sowers on the Road

KJV

We use the King James Version because research has shown it to be the most accurate English translation of the original received texts that have the most evidence for authenticity.

Trinity

We believe the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are three distinct persons of one essence, co-eternal and co-existing, equal in power, glory, and divinity. Jesus is fully God. We are monotheistic.

Sinfulness of Man

Man was created in the image of God, but because of Adam’s sin, the human race fell. We inherited a sinful nature and became alienated from God. Under the new covenant, man remains alienated from God until he places his faith in Christ (Genesis 1:26–27; Genesis 3:7–8; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23).

Conviction

We believe conviction (Acts 2:37 — the pricking of the heart) is God’s work on the conscience and is necessary for genuine salvation. Conviction exposes sin, brings awareness of offense against God, and produces godly sorrow (2 Cor 7:10). Worldly sorrow does not produce repentance leading to salvation.

Conviction → Godly sorrow → Repentance → Faith in Christ → Salvation / Restoration

Restoration occurs when the repentant sinner realizes that no self-righteous act can save them. Salvation is a free gift, received by those who place their faith wholly in the work of the cross — Christ’s life, death, and resurrection — as full payment for sin. It is received through faith alone, not earned by works (Eph 2:8–9; Rom 10:9–10).

Baptism

Baptism is an ordinance commanded by Jesus Christ, symbolizing the believer’s identification with His death, burial, and resurrection (Romans 6:3–4; Colossians 2:12). It is an outward testimony of an inward faith and should be administered to those who have repented and placed their faith in Christ. Baptism does not save, but is an act of obedience demonstrating the believer’s new faith in Christ.

Notes about “The Sinners Prayer”

Prayer is never a forbidden subject in the Bible. However, you will never find a single example of someone having to say a prayer to be saved. The concept of the “Sinner’s Prayer” has unfortunately been widely taught in modern evangelism. While it can be a helpful way to articulate repentance and faith, reciting words alone does not guarantee salvation. Many have prayed such a prayer without truly understanding or exercising faith, leading to false assurance. If prayer itself saved, it would be works salvation.

Notes about “Asking Jesus into Your Heart”

This phrase is often used to describe the personal acceptance of Christ, but Scripture emphasizes faith, repentance, and trust in Christ rather than a verbal formula (Acts 16:31; Romans 10:9–10). True acceptance of Jesus begins with recognizing your sin, turning from it, and relying wholly on His atoning work.

Tongues and Healing

The Bible teaches the sign gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as speaking in tongues and the gift of healing, were temporary and primarily for the foundational period of the early Church. Speaking in tongues in the Bible always refers to a real, human language (e.g., Hebrew, Greek, or other known languages) and never to ecstatic utterances. Tongues were given for the purpose of spreading the Gospel (Acts 2:4–11; 1 Corinthians 14:22) and were never a common or necessary sign of the baptism or filling of the Holy Spirit.

Healing of the body is promised ultimately in the resurrection and our eternal life with Christ. God may, in His sovereignty, choose to answer prayers for physical healing, but deliverance from sickness and death awaits Heaven (2 Timothy 4:20; Hebrews 2:3–4). Today, the Spirit empowers believers for godly living, service, and bold witness, rather than for miraculous signs.
